Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu is set to visit Ntungamo District tomorrow for a major campaign rally, as the National Unity Platform (NUP) confirms that all preparations are complete.
The campaign rally will feature an escort procession through several sub–counties, the opening of new party offices, and a grand rally at Ruhoko Primary School playground.
Rubahamya Magambo, NUP chairman for Ntungamo District and MP aspirant for Ntungamo Municipality, said mobilization across the district has been robust.
He explained that Kyagulanyi will be escorted from Rwampara through Ruhaama and Rubaare before arriving in Ntungamo Municipality.
“We have to escort our president from Rwampara through Ruhaama to Rubaare, where he will have a rally. From Rubaare he will come to Ntungamo Municipality for the opening of our offices, then proceed to Ruhoko Primary School, where we shall be hosting him,” Magambo said.
He noted that establishing a new NUP office in Ntungamo marks a significant political milestone for the party in a district traditionally seen as a stronghold of the ruling NRM.
“Having an office here shows NUP’s presence and that of our candidates. It gives us visibility and influence,” Magambo said, adding that the party’s approach in Ntungamo has been strategic.
“NUP has come to Ntungamo with a different narrative. We are head-to-head with NRM, and tomorrow the world will notice that Ntungamo is not only about NRM,” he added, noting that Kyagulanyi will address the issue of sectarian politics in his speech.
Kyagulanyi is the second presidential candidate to campaign in Ntungamo this season, following Mubarak Munyagwa’s earlier visit.
Ntungamo Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Miriam Kagaiga said security agencies have coordinated with party officials to ensure a peaceful campaign environment.
“I have sat with my security team, and we have allocated the playgrounds, which they have agreed to. My appeal to presidential candidates is to come, meet your supporters, and cooperate peacefully,” Kagaiga said.
Political analyst Edward Natamba described the district as calm and ready for competitive but peaceful campaigns.
“In Ntungamo, the political field is level. We expect security to do its work without interfering with candidates. There should be no confusion, just a successful campaign,” Natamba said.
